Google has announced the introduction of a new policy for Dating and Companionship Ads, along with a certification program, set to launch on March 4. This change is designed to enhance oversight of dating-related advertisements across Google’s advertising platforms.

 

Key Updates in the Policy
Under the new rules, advertisers must obtain certification from Google in order to run ads related to dating or companionship. The updated policy also prohibits certain types of ads, including those that:

 

• Promote dating services for minors
• Feature misleading imagery or text
• Advertise paid companionship or sexual services
• Encourage exploitative or deceptive practices
• Promote mail-order bride services

 

Ads for hookup sites, casual encounter platforms, swinger services, infidelity apps, sexual fetish dating, and those containing nudity or suggestive content will face stricter regulations. Ad placement restrictions will depend on factors such as the type of ad, the user’s age, local legislation, SafeSearch settings, and past interactions with sexual content.

 

Transition Period
The new Dating and Companionship Ads policy will go into effect on March 4. Advertisers are encouraged to review their campaigns now to ensure they meet the new requirements, either by securing certification or removing non-compliant ads. Enforcement will gradually ramp up after the policy is implemented.

Though this policy stands independently, it aligns with Google’s existing rules regarding inappropriate and sexual content, which will also be updated in tandem.
